Elsa Brits


  • President of SAQG for 8 years
  • She still serves on the SAQG committee representing the Vaal Driehoek Kwiltersgilde and currently holds the Quilters’ Hall of Fame portfolio
  • Was the chairperson/ coordinator of the NQF 2000, held in Johannesburg 
  • SAQG Accredited Quilt Judge and has judged locally as well as in Zimbabwe and France 
  • SAQG Accreditation Tutor for both the teacher’s and judge’s courses since 2006
  • She is known and admired for her knowledge of Quilt related history
  • She organized a South African exhibition of 55 quilts to Val d’Argent, France and as such represented SAQG
  • Was published in the discontinued ‘Lantern’ magazine in 1993
  • Coordinated and edited the Lapa book “Laslap en Kwilt” in 2013
  • Has exhibited her work nationally and internationally
  • Has entered most “Travelling exhibitions” as presented by SAQG
