Odette Tolksdorf

We pay tribute to Odetteā€™s commitment to furthering her art medium of choice by being an exceptional ambassador for South African quiltmaking.



Odette Tolksdorf


Odette is a respected member of the Kwa-Zulu Natal Quilters’ Guild and has been involved with quilting since 1983. She started teaching in the late 1980’s and her classes have taken her all over South Africa, to Swaziland, Namibia, Zimbabwe, as well as to the USA, New Zealand and Australia.

Odette has exhibited extensively at different national and international contemporary textile art shows.  Her work can be found in public and private collections, both locally and in Holland, Canada and the USA.

She has judged at national and international quilt competitions and has been curator of exhibitions of South African quilts internationally. In 2001 she was appointed the South African coordinator for the annual World Quilt and Textile Competition.

She is a founding member of the Grassroots Quilters’ Guild, Quilt Indaba as well as the textile art group Fibreworks. 
She was awarded the Grassroots Quilters’ Guild Chairlady’s Award in 2006 and Honorary Lifetime Membership to the Natal Quilters’ Guild in 2007.
